Marking Period 1 is OVER!Or it will be this friday. This means that all missing work must be turned into me by Monday morning. I'm working my hardest to get grades in as fast as I can (Babies are not conducive to getting anything done, ever), but make sure that you have all of the following assignments turned in/corrected by Monday:
I also assigned an extra credit assignment (One pager) today in class that I will accept anytime before tuesday morning. Click for Instructions and Examples Unit 2 Cells Test on Oct 2/3!Unit 2 is over! Which means it's time for a test. And just like last time I have put together some review resources for you under the resources page- or just click here. This test will cover the following information:

Unit 1 Test Re-takesIf you made less than a 70 on the Unit 1 Biomolecules test you are allowed to re-take the test for up to a 70. You will have to complete an assignment first (attached to this post) and arrange for a time to come in and re-take your test (I am here in the mornings from 8:15). The re-test will be two short answer questions, one over Biomolecules and one over Enzymes.
Unit 2: Cell Structure and ProcessesThis past week we started our new unit. This unit is all about cells and how they work. So far we have looked at comparing the different types of cells and observed examples of them under the microscope. I am attaching copies of our notes from class to this post, as well as a powerpoint including the microscope images from the activity we did in class. If you are still struggling watch the videos at the end of this post for some more information.
Unit 1 Test is NEXT CLASS (Sept 8/11)That's right you heard it here first (well, hopefully you heard it from me first), but yes your first test is coming up! It's time to study! This test will consist of a combination of multiple choice (on the computer) and short answer (on paper) questions. Take a look at our Pre-AP/IB Prep Resources page to find copies of our notes, the review for this unit, and some videos that you can use to help you study. Enzymes Lab Report Due Next Class (Sept 8/11)Today during class we finished up looking at the data from our lab, completed our argumentation boards and started on our lab reports. Lab reports are due ONLINE on google classroom. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE- Make sure you submit your completed assignment to classroom (Not sure how? Click here!) If you just share the document with me it will get lost in the deluge of emails I receive and I will be under the mistaken impression that you did not turn in your work on time. I have attached a copy of the instructions for the lab to this post in case you need it. You will need to prepare an investigation report that consists of three sections that provide answers to the following questions: 1. What question were you trying to answer and why? (The guiding question goes here, specify what your group focused on) 2. What did you do during your investigation and why did you conduct your investigation in this way? (This should be methods- but include why you chose that method!) 3. What is your argument? What could you improve for the next investigation? (Include your claim, evidence and justification here- This is likely to be the longest section!) Your report should answer these questions in two pages or less. This report must be typed, and any diagrams, figures, or tables should be embedded into the document. Be sure to write in a persuasive style; you are trying to convince others that your claim is acceptable or valid! Also, it is OKAY if your data does not match up with what you know should have happened based on your prior knowledge. If your data says that Enzymes work better in super strong acid, but you know that is incorrect, just explain why you cannot justify the evidence for your claim. It is okay to have data be wrong- Science does that sometimes. This gives you the chance to evaluate what may have gone wrong and improve it for the next time.
